Goethe in St.-Petersburg, the State Museum of Urban Sculpture at support of the State center of a photo represent an exhibition «Bauhaus Photography» Institute of communications with foreign countries ifa. The exhibition opens on October, 12th in the New showroom of the State museum of a city sculpture.
The exhibition presents a wide range of photographic works documenting the activities at the bauhaus. Curator Wulf Herzogenrath selected 124 original photos by over forty photographers, ranging from amateur to highly professional works, from snapshots to carefully devised advertising photos.
Between the two World Wars, the bauhaus School, founded in Weimar by the architect Walter Gropius, became the leading avant-garde art-educational institution in Germany and worked as a testing ground for the combined efforts of artists, artisans and industrial designers.
The bauhaus staff and students see their photographic works more as documentary shots than works of photographic art. Their creations reflect the then new, rational and factual, visual sensibility in unconventional perspectives and picture compositions.
